李鳴鵰(1922—2013)生於桃園大溪,與攝影家張才、鄧南光被稱為台灣的「快門三劍客」。14歲時,李鳴鵰開始接觸攝影,在「大溪寫場」當學徒,後前往廣州學習繪畫,於太平洋戰爭期間在日軍衛生防疫部隊繪製海報並擔任日文顧問。返台後於榮町二丁目(現台北衡陽路)開設「中美照相器材行」,同時致力推動台灣攝影學會活動與影展,並創辦了台灣戰後第一本攝影雜誌《台灣影藝》。

李鳴鵰的作品重視光影與構圖,影像質樸溫厚,為台灣早年的庶民生活與田園風貌留下豐富記憶。本書是2009年台北市立美術館所策劃之「李鳴鵰攝影回顧展」專輯,書中重新整理這位台灣前輩攝影人的上百幀黑白影像,以及因此次展覽而重新沖放的彩色照片。書中以「風景心境」、「光影歲月」、「靚女風采」、「抽象造影」和「旅遊寫真」五個子題,展現李鳴鵰對鄉間街景、日常生活、攝影協會活動時期的人體攝影、模特兒寫真和對光影表現的關注。本書亦收錄資深攝影家莊靈與蕭永盛的兩篇專文、李鳴鵰早年的照片印樣及其生平回顧年表。

Born in Taoyuan County, Taiwan, Lee Ming-Tiao(1922-2013) is one of the most renowned pioneers in Taiwanese photography history. In 1935, when Lee Ming-Tiao was at 14, he became a student at Dasi Photography Studio, where he came in contact with photography. He went to Guangdong in 1940, entered the Lingnan School of Art, studying watercolor painting. In 1941, the Pacific Theater of WWII erupted, Lee voluntarily enlisted in the Japanese Army’s South China Expeditionary Force, served as a volunteer in the Health Unit to be responsible for the art design of disease prevention posters. After he was back to Taiwan, he opened a camera equipment shop in Taipei. In 1940s, amateur photography developed rapidly in Taiwan. Lee initiated photo exhibitions and societies, founded the first photography magazine in Taiwan after WWII and frequently participated in exhibitions and served as jury, actively helping to guide junior colleagues. This catalogue is published in conjunction with the exhibition Lee Ming-Tiao Photography Retrospective at Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 2009.
